\ Your Telcoe Account: What You Need To Know About Overdrafts\

\

Some of the most frequently asked questions we get from our members are related to overdraft fees and overdraft protection. This week, we're discussing what happens with your Telcoe checking account when and if an overdraft occurs.

Typically, Telcoe does not authorize transactions that will make your account in the negative. However, some merchants will authorize as little as a dollar when you make a purchase, or they may authorize money then release it before the transaction actually posts to your account. As a result, situations like these can cause a transaction (and subsequent transactions) to overdraw your account.

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my Telcoe account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your Telcoe checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to do so:

  • ATM transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions

Telcoe pays overdrafts at our discretion, meaning we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if Telcoe pays my overdraft?

Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • We will charge you a fee of up to $26 each time we pay an overdraft.
  • If your account is overdrawn for five or more consecutive business days, we will charge an additional $5 per day.
  • There is no limit on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account.
